Holiday Open House
Friday, November 30, 2012
Each holiday season on the first Friday of December (except in 2012), Waynesburg Prosperous & Beautiful hosts its annual Holiday Open House in historic downtown Waynesburg. On that day, most stores in the downtown business district extend their hours to 9 p.m. or later, with live musicians, burn barrels and the smell of hot chocolate providing a unique and festive shopping atmosphere.
A highlight of the evening is the silent auction, typically featuring more than $1,000 value of merchandise donated by downtown businesses. Items up for bid include jewelry, gift baskets, clothing, gift certificates, handmade crafts, and more! Proceeds from the silent auction benefit programs of Waynesburg Prosperous & Beautiful.
The past Holiday Open House events have also featured horse-drawn wagon rides provided by Fred Kiger and his team of Belgian horses. The Presbyterian Bell Choir performed live on the Courthouse steps, and live musical groups and carolers entertained at various spots along High Street. Moore's Hot Dogs sold hot dogs and coffee to chilly shoppers on the sidewalk near the Courthouse, and most downtown shops offered free cookies and hot chocolate or cider courtesy of Bakelove's Lisa Conklin. Santa Claus was also spotted around town listening to children's Christmas wish lists.
